Zambia

The Republic of Zambia, formerly known as Northern Rhodesia, has the official language of English and the capital city of Lusaka.

Much of the land is covered by forest and savannah. The savannah is an ideal environment for the spread and growth of large populations of the mammals that dominated these lands before the arrival of Europeans, it is simply an exceptional wealth of wildlife.

The great national parks of Zambia are North Luangwa National Park, South Luangwa National Park and Kafue National Park, all are home to many game species. The main rivers are the Zambezi of Zambia, which is born in the western region of the country and forms the border between Zambia and Namibia, the Kafue, which is born in the mountainous area between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo and finally the Luangwa flowing North. Not to be missed are the famous Victoria Falls created by the Zambezi River, a unique and unforgettable destination for all adventurers traveling to Zambia. In southern Africa it is considered the adventure capital, with some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The mist caused by the power of the falls can be seen up to 30 km away; In fact, the local called it "smoke that thunders ancient area" and at the right time, you can see the rainbows at night.

Small paths bordering the falls allow tourists to get close safely and enjoy the sense of wonder given by what is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Recall that the falls can also be admired from the Zimbabwean border.  

Some useful info for travelers

The prefix for calling from Europe is +260. 

The entry visa required is released at the border on arrival in the country. The cost for a single entry is € 30.00 for a maximum duration of 30 days, € 40.00 for a double entrance, € 50.00 for a multiple entry. It is important to avoid being in the country without a passport.  

Vaccinations are recommended as well as anti-malaria prophylaxis. Travelers who come from Zambia to South Africa and those from South Africa direct into Zambia must have had vaccinations against yellow fever. Please note that you must make receive the vaccination at least 10 days before departure. It is advisable to take preventive measures against mosquito bites (insect repellants), as well as only consuming cooked vegetables and drinking bottled water without adding ice; consuming only peeled fruit; carrying basic medicines and broad-spectrum antibiotics, given the difficulty of finding medicines locally. 

The local currency is the Zambian kwacha. It must be held with incoming foreign currency and Travelers' Cheques, with the total value not exceeding $ 5,000 US. It is mandatory to declare the exported foreign currency. 

The climate is humid heat mainly in the rainy season (November to April) and dry and moderate during the rest of the year. Bring light clothes and a sweater for the evening and something waterproof (k-way) as well as comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen. For logistical reasons it is advisable to bring lightweight luggage.
